There are some modifications of seatpost and saddle at:

Re: A WEIGHTY ISSUE: rider weight- excede 187 lb?

Post by Amuro Lee on Fri May 04, 2007 2:30 pm

As an overweight A-biker (115kg  ), I have to pay more attention on my A-bike and check the joints and parts more frequently than a "normal" weight rider.
I bought my A-bike on the Boxing Day last year and ride it to work on weekdays. So far my A-bike hasn't broken yet.:P

A WEIGHTY ISSUE: rider weight- excede 187 lb?

Post by lordnelson on Fri May 04, 2007 3:06 am

I'm still waiting for my A-bike to arrive.
I have friends over 189 lbs who will certainly give the bike a test ride when I'm not looking. Nowhere on the forum have I see any comments about the dangers of going over the weight limits. I did find a comment attributed to Dr. Sinclair that the bike has been 'over-engineered' and could handle higher weights form an engineering perspective. What happens to the frame and tire/brake/steering when the weight limit is exceded?

Comments for the field are appreciated. Are all a-bike owners below that weight? Are there any who got too fat and broke their bikes? Or is this just a prophylactic issue to guard against breakdowns?

For example, there is a lot of discussion about uncomfortable seats, and about the plastic seat tube slip-ring fracturing for some people. This could of course happen due to rider abuse (jumps, wheelies, etc) but it could also result during normal riding from hitting bumps and carrying too much weight.

I'd be curious about just how cautious a-bike owners are about real-world weight limits (or not). Should I just say 'no' to my fat friends?javascript:emoticon('')
