new 2010 model details

Postby stocky on Fri May 07, 2010 1:52 pm

Hi all,

Just received a reply from a-bike suppliers about the new model -

"The new A-bike will have the same look, just it was improved all way round -
see the spec:

a - new remodelled saddle for increased comfort and durability (shouldn't
need saddle cover) b - new pedal design for quicker and safer folding and
unfolding and more sturdy feel c - added brake return spring and new
material noodles (brake cable routers) along with brake band improvements
for improved braking performance d - improved fasteners and thread locking e
- cold drawn telescoping tubes replace the old hot extruded tubing for
higher precision and smooth fold unfold of the bike f - an improved toolkit
for maintenances (longer allen key, chrome vanadium steel phillips screw
driver) g - CNC ( and improved heat treating of) drive components replaces
forged parts for increased accuracy, strength and durability with nikel
chrome electro plating for better resistance to rust. Along with LMC branded
chain and SKF bearings means the bike runs smoother and more efficiently
than ever h - many plastic parts have been made stronger by increasing the
amount of glass fibres composited with the plastic by 50% f - improved
dimensional accuracy on steering bearings giving a almost frictionless but
rigid steering column

Along with many design tweaks that make this the most comfortable, best
looking and best performing A-bike ever!
We should have the new A-bike in stock by the 17th May.

Best Regards
Customer Support"

Unfortunately the new price is £249.99 :-(

What does everyone think of this?? Do you think the price will drop, or is it worth it??

Cheers Stocky

I'm sure the extra £50 will be worth it. It seems they're fixing all the problems I've seen on this forum and other forums around the 'net so I'm fine with the extra pricing. I was lucky enough to be too broke a few months ago for the A-Bike Plus so I'll be able to buy this upgrade instead! :D

I can't wait to see if the 'hoof' has changed or just looks more cushion-y. I'm also interested in the possible new folding methods of the pedals and I'm excited that the brakes have been improved. Most importantly, I hope the folded dimensions haven't been changed. The A-Bike I have fit's perfectly in my school's locker and, if they change the length or width by even half a centimeter, I'm afraid I won't be able to use it in school! I'm very excited about the redesign and I hope it's worth the 50 extra pounds. Only 9 more days! :)

Ugh...

I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything, but I was hoping for a 2010 model gallery or something... Perhaps it was mostly interior changes but I'd still like to see something change. This, my friends, is called being a brat!

I'm still excited though! My bike should be heading out here soon!

I would thing that the seat design of the bike will be about the same as before. Just a "bit " more refines. If you looking at buying a new one, look into replacing the seat. Most other people on this site that own a A-bike have done at least that so they can ride the bike more comfortably. It would be nice to see some updated pictures of things like the new factory seat.

That is a general improvement and tuning in all details. Normally that produces good results on the product quality and scope.

As if it heard my thoughts, the site updated the pictures on the buy page. The seat looks all snazzy and, dare I saw, sexy. Very nice curves, A-Bike.

But, I see it WAS mostly interior changes because I don't see anything else that's too terribly different. I'll have a full review ready the next time I can log on/when the new bike gets here!

I think the web site is out of date. It says the bike is out of stock, and won't be in stock until May 1'st. (which was weeks ago obviously) Where can I order one that ships to San Francisco?

It appears the website is now taking orders. It finally lets you add an A-Bike to your cart and checkout. Anyone order one yet? http://www.a-bike.co.uk/store/store_homepage.php

This other site seems to have more info and shows in U.S.$

Still the same tiny wheels? "Epic fail".

"Still the same tiny wheels? "Epic fail"."

Exactly. If they had read any of the discussion on this forum they would realise the benefits of 8" wheels are well worth the compromise in size. Although it is good to see that they have increased the quality (and the price) as build quality is the only reason to buy the genuine one over the (often more innovative but not so well made) chinese copies.

Anyone have detailed photos of the new model? I would be interested to see the return spring mechanism for the brakes and the new gear/chain system.

I'm excited to see a detailed 3rd party / personal review as well. (hopefully someone that really knows the details and goes over every little thing) And yes, Detailed photos and videos please. I'm pretty sure I'll buy one in the near future since I still have a first gen model. I just want to see and hear good things first.
