There is at least one A-bike'r in Russia - Me. Questions

Postby Guest on Mon Apr 02, 2007 6:26 am

Hello!

I have received it, at last! I have tried it and yes, it rocks. But I understand one thing - I'm not in fit :((

I have a little problem - A-bike rear brake. It doesn't act well. Actually when I press it, it brakes a little, but it doesn't come back to the default position (like the front one). So when I ride, the rear wheel doesn't twist ok. I have tried to adjust the brakes (soft method and hard method), but no luck. It seems that when I press the rear brake some cable sticks a little bit inside.

Any suggestions?

I saw the same case in Korean community. Following my experience, probably, you didn't extend the rear leg(rear lower tube + upper tube) perfactly.
The A-bike seems to finish the brake test before delivery.
When you unfold A-bike, you have to check the pop-up of black Locking Button in the middle of the legs(front leg + rear leg).

If you still have problems after this check, I hope to see some photos.

Thanks for your kind reply!

I will try to check it as soon as finish my work, but actually it seems that all black buttons popup ok. Do you know, if some brake cables can be somehow mixed with other cables (inside tubes) .. and if yes, what can you suggest?

I have two opinions.
_1. the structure of brake cable is simple inside A-bike.
_2. if brake cables mixed then the length of cable would be shortened thus the brake would maintain 'holding status'.

Hello!

I have tried and now it's works ok !! BUT, when I ride, I hear some strange sound from rear - like "Krya-Krya-Krya", when I push brake button, the sound dissappears. Very strange.

Did any anybody heard something like this?

Hello! I am also from Russia and I also had some trouble with my a-bike i.e. with brakes. You should be very accurately with it fitting because this is the “payment” for compactness and lightness. I think that the reason of this sound is the screw that clamp the brakes and brake cable. If the brakes are very soft this screw may touch the well.

Hi Oleg!

Thanks for your reply! I will try to check this today.

BTW, do you ride on your a-bike frequently and how do you cope with going uphills? It's quite hard for me now, it seems that the speed of going uphills is nearly the same as going by foot, but the effort is much more :(

Maybe this is because I'm not a sporty person? Or maybe this is the problem of A-bike itself?

It is a complex question because the difference between the hill and incline plane is very relative. In general I have not great experience with a-bike usual, but I formulating for myself the following rule: if any route is difficult for usual one-speed bike then this route is impossible for a-bike. I want to warn you against hard effort on a-bike because they have a big Gear Ratio. I think that the most reliable way to solve your problems is trying another a-bike. If you live in Moscow this is easy  .

Noise reduction
1. if you hear a metallic scratch sound from wheel then adjust the brake band. In this photo, grip the red circle and bend it outside(not too much!!). This is not a serious(or open occured) problem. Because the friction(between the brake band and the brake drum) starts from the blue circle, the band is automatically arranged following the drum as riding.

2. if you hear a pulse(or bit) sound(tuck tuck tuck...), tighten the nozzle cap of the rear wheel. These in-line photos show the reason.

Up-Hill
I recommend you to pump air into wheels until 90psi exactly. It will help your smooth cycling.
The 90psi is double pressure compared with the sport utility vehicle.

Thanks for your replies, guys!

I like people on this forum - very responsive.

Oleg I'm from Moscow, Russia :)
I have tried to do what you said, and I think this solved a problem. Today I want to try to go home by a-bike, leave my car near office and this will be a good test drive - office-cafe-metro-home.

Binch Shin I like the way you answer questions - very convenient, and showing the photos is the great idea.

Binch Sin,

Thanks for your advice! I still have some problems with the rear brake but now they are not so bad.
