I don't know because I only have the experience on using the 1st generation A-bike. They have made improvements on materials and tube thicknesses on the newer geneartions.
You get what you pay for, I think.

Maybe you can refer to my past experience of using the 1st generation A-bike:

ok I saw does that mean that an a-bike will crack under my ponderous weight? and the bogus 8" one will just collapse???

Is the CarryMe really too long?
Here is a picture comparing the folded sizes of 3 different tiny-wheeled bikes:

This is copied from another bike forum: :)

For example a 80kg rider who rides hard on rough roads, jumps kerbs etc. Is probably going to 'stress' the frame and use up more 'fatigue cycles' than a 110 kg who is more gentle , on smooth roads .
I am also an overweight A-biker actually.

The 8" wheeled A-bike Smart costs CNY¥1800 in mainland China. If the selling price of the bike on Ebay is too low, it seems unlikely to be a genuine A-bike Smart.

The CarryMe is too long! and too pricey! I was looking into the HandyBike .. but they are no longer brought into the US.. and I cant find one (actually 2)used. From HK they would be way too much too ship here.

Would the regular (or 2010 model) support me??? what would give??? anyone in the NY are with a GENUINE A-Bike Plus that I could try??

for that matter.. is there a chance that the clone with 8" wheels is an A-Bike Smart??? How could I find out???

Hi Rob,

I think you can buy a genuine A-bike online from the offical website. They ship to the US.

If you really want an all metal bike with 8" wheels and gears that would fit in your MINI Cooper boot, I think CarryMe DS is a good choice:

I'm 250 lbs and 6' high and would love to have an all metal A-bike with 8" wheels and 3 speed..
and a regular one for my wife (she's a LOT lighter and 5')
as far as i can find these are the only bikes that would fit in my MINI Cooper boot.
I've seen other bikes online,, but here in the Long Island area.. and NYC,.. all shops poo poo the A-bike
on Ebay I've seen one retailer who is offering an A-Bike with 8" wheels.. but I dont know if it is the ABike Smart or another chinese clone..

really wish there was a real distributor here in the US.. and a version for us larger people

anyone have any answers or suggestions??? What would give if i got the clone with 8" wheels?? or for that matter.. a real A-Bike??

Woah, that's a good point! :o I never took that into consideration... but I haven't died some horrible death with my backpack on so I guess it's ok. I never realized the A-Bike was so sturdy! It carries my combined 100kg every day! :D

I read your posting. I'm just over six foot and 91kilos. I thought I'd be allright on one, but unfortunately, it broke (see my posting)

I also found it rather inefficient in terms of the amount of effort you have to put in per distance travelled. You can get a folding mountain bike and I would imagine these will be more efficient.

For your height, you're not overweight

Thanks to the sensitve steering of A-bike, I can bypass pot holes on the road easily. :)

Amuro Lee, your an adventures guy then. A small pot hole and it just breaks down under you.

A-bike share this weight limit with CarryMe and other small bikes.

Not sure what Mobiky and the bigger bikes could stand but maybe 115 is kind of limit?

Wish you all luck. Last time I fell my ribs hurt for three weeks. Me lucky to not get bone broken or head injured.

I love looking at a folded A-bike, look neat indeed. As a gadget geek I would buy one and put it on my wall as a modern art artifact. :)

I weigh 115kg...

As an overweight A-biker, I have to check the bike more frequently than a normal weight rider.
My A-bike hasn't broken yet since I bought it on the boxing day last year. :P
