I got some 'all pro' 5 pound (sold as 10 pounds, 2 5's) angle weights that I've been wearing at work under my pant legs for a few days.

It takes about half an hour to get used to the weight, but after that its near normal.

At the end of the day, and before I ride, I take them off, and have a sensation of being able to jump the building.

Wearing these all day, before my after work bike ride, it seems to have increased my stamina considerably, and I managed to get my bike to 18 mph.. though a bit of wind was involved there.

Just something to think about.
