Land's End to John o'Groats. U.K

Postby ksd on Mon Jul 16, 2007 2:27 pm

Would it not be great to go from Land's End to John o'Groats on the A-bike. Could it be done? Would it be possible with the one bike? Terrain? Repairs? Anyone interested? How long will it take?  :( :o :) :D  :!:

If only......wonder what the greatest distance someone has covered is? In one stretch?

I've just searched the distance. It seems to be about 875 miles. that means you have to do that another 63 times. Could the A-Bike take it? :?: :(

That would be some journey if it was possible, maybe a sore one at that too.

Actually, it's been done with a Sinclair C5, if I'm not mistaken.

It could be done with an A-bike I suppose: don't forget the A-bike is multimodal, so arguably, you could take it on the bus, on the train and still be using the bike as it was meant to be.

You might want to note that at 8mph, that's about 110 hours of riding. It's a noble thought, but it seems impractical, unless you're planning on a two week trip and some posterior soreness (which you'd get on any bike after being on it for 10 hours a day.)

It would be a big challenge indeed for both bike and rider. I suspect you'd need quite a few A-Bikes to get there, although it would be interesting to see how far it really could go.

If anyone wants to try this or similar A-Bike related challenges for charity please let me know, and I'll ensure they get well publicised here.

I was thinking about taking my bike to India, but if you know how they drive over there and the state of the roads you would think twice. Decided not to in the end.

I might actually be in a position to do this challenge, but doubt i'll be able to do it all with the A Bike

long rides

Postby Sherlock Holmes on Mon Feb 04, 2008 7:02 pm

It sounds as if it would be great fun to do a long A-bike ride over a period of a couple weeks, or even a long weekend. Does anyone have any experience with this, and carrying a lightweight tent on their back, as well as other supplies?

Maybe it would be more practical for a group of riders in multiples of two. That way you could have one person carry a small two-person tent, and the other could carry the other supplies.

I guess if you did have a large charity ride, though, maybe you could have sponsors along the way who would offer up rooms for the night. Maybe even churches or other non-profit businesses would let you spend the night.

Let me know if you plan any charity events. I know they would probably be in England, so I would not be able to attend, but I can hope.
